If that's the case, how can there be drinking holidays? Easy, some days just have more importance, days like New Year's Eve, The Super Bowl, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, the night before Thanksgiving at the local bar, and of course, your birthday. Your birthday should be a National Holiday. Yes, yours.
Top 10 Drinking Holidays by Total Drinks Consumed
According to Alcohol.org, the top 10 drinking holidays by the total number of drinks consumed that day are as followed. New Year's Eve represents the most binge drinking by both men and women.
- Mardi Gras
- New Year's Eve
- St. Patrick's Day
- Fourth of July
- Halloween
- Cinco De Mayo
- Memorial Day
- Labor Day
- Winter Holidays
- Thanksgiving
Alcohol.org arrived at these results by polling over 1,000 Americans about their drinking habits around the holidays.
National Hangover Day
We're not sure who came up with this one, other than everyone. You know the drill, it's NYE and you're kicking back flutes of Dom P's (Andre for us) when "SHOTS!" rings out like a bell after midnight. You sign right up seeing as you're not working tomorrow (or maybe you are). Next thing you know, it's morning and your head feels like it's taken a smash from Thor's Hammer, Mjolnir.
That's called a headache. Congrats, you just made your first New Year's Resolution, to never ever get that drunk again. Until you go that hard again next New Year's Eve. Take comfort knowing you're 990,000 in a million.
That's why they call January 1st, National Hangover Day.

Baltic Porter Day
And we thought IPAs were all the craze. Nah, on January 16th every year, folks in Poland and around the rest of the globe fill up their Nonic Pint Glasses with a tasty Baltic Porter (we fill ours with Barrel-Aged Framinghammers). Don't sleep on this underappreciated beer and beer glass for that matter.
Oh, one more thing. If you're going to celebrate Baltic Porter Day, toast Marcin Chmielarz for making it happen.

Beer Can Appreciation Day
Beer can artwork is such a differentiator in the shelves, so much so that any true craft beer lover needs to appreciate it. Beyond standing out from a crowd, the artwork on the can speaks to the values of your brand. It's one of, if not the first touchpoints that a potential customer has with your beer. They start tasting your beer with the label they are seeing, not when they pop the top of the can or drink the first sip.

Super Bowl Sunday
The Super Bowl is one of the biggest annual nights to party in the United States. Unlike the other 3 major U.S. sports, American Football only gives it's top 2 teams one chance to establish dominance and achieve glory per season. The Super Bowl is for popular beer brand commercials as the Grammys are for musicians or the Oscars are for actors and actresses.
America's favorite Sunday Night tailgate is no-doubt-about-it drinking holiday. If you're tackling the Tom Brady Challenge (one beer for every SB he's played in), a drinking game which gets harder every year, then you're best bet is to grab a 12 pack of cheap light beers. We reserve the right to up that to an 18 pack if he refuses to retire.

Mardi Gras
New Orleans explodes into celebration during Mardi Gras, which is less a drinking holiday and more a drinking holi-weeks. Hurricanes, Sazeracs, and King Cake Shots, Oh My!

World Bartender Day
Our biggest question is whether or not the world has created a World Beertender Day or a Holiday for Cicerones ...
Anyway, tip your bartender always and always tip your bartender well on World Bartender Day.

International Women's Collab Brew Day
Sophie de Ronde, a brewer at Burnt Mill Brewery in the U.K. came up with the idea to hold an International Women's brewing day back in 2013. It's also International Women's Day on March 8th, so it fits seamlessly.
The theme of the 2021 Collab Brew Day was Compassion. Prior to that it was Tribute. We look forward to seeing what is in store for 2022.

St. Patrick's Day
The drinking holiday of drinking holidays. Did you know that an estimated 13,000,000 pints of Guinness are poured on St. Patrick's Day?
Whether it's a pint of Guinness, a mug of green beer, or some fireball nips smuggled onto the subway, you're (probably) drinking on March 17th somewhere. Let's face it, it's a full 24 hours of 5 o'clock somewheres.

National Beer Day
Amendments were passed (the 18th), so were acts (Volstead), and then no one has a (legal) drink in America for 13 years. Then Franklin Delano Roosevelt makes a campaign promise to legalize drinking again.
What follows? He gets elected, of course. Prohibition goes away. FDR steps to the mic and says, "What America Needs Now is a Drink" - what an insightful quote.
America goes wild like he just yelled, "San Dimas High School Football Rules!"
Yuengling, the oldest brewery in America, is super grateful and sends him a case of beer. Technically many, but who's counting. Getting a job at a brewery becomes a thing (for the first time). We land on the moon. Led Zeppelin IV. The 1980 Olympic Hockey Team beats Russia. Tommy Lee spins upside down in his Mötley Crüe drumset. Gronk is born. All things that don't happen without the 21st Amendment.
So yes, National Beer Day.

Saison Day
We can all thank Allagash Brewing Company for unofficialy registering April 14th as a day dedicated to the Saison. Saisons are best served out of Snifters, Tulips, or Over-sized Wine Glasses. As for the type of beer, they're a farmhouse-style beer that was made seasonally in the Southern regions of Belgium. In America, you can get yourself a quality Saison from brewers such as Hill Farmstead or Ommegang.

German Beer Day
German Beer Day is technically the oldest beer-drinking holiday since Weihenstephaner is the oldest brewery in the world. At least, that's our take on it.
Reinheitsgebot, or, the "purity order", or, the "beer purity law" was a 16th century Bavarian law enacted to help regulate/set the price of beer, limit the profits made on selling beer, and set the penalties assoiciated with making impure beer. Beer made with anything other than water, hops, and barely was considered impure. How yeast plays into that is a discussion beyond the scope of the reasons for celebrating Reinheitsgebot.

National Homebrew Day & Big Brew
Unlike a lot of these drinking holidays which fall on a date, Big Brew falls on a set day, specifically the first Saturday in May. It makes total sense when you account for a large share of homebrewers working 9 to 5 during the week. According to the Homebrewers Association, 2,249 participants took part in Big Brew, brewing 15,298 gallons of beer in the process. If you're interested in crafting up some brews in '22, consider reading some books on homebrewing to help jumpstart your education.
Recipes for 2021 included:
National Homebrew Day is May 7th every year. Big Brew is the annual event that celebrates that day. In 2022, they just so happen to fall on the same day.

American Craft Beer Week®
Like Mardi Gras, a single day is just too simple. Thus, it is incumbunt upon you, should you love beer as much as we do, to visit your local craft brewery to acquire some fresh suds during the middle of the month of May. Visit more than one if you wish.
Get out and buy some tallboys to go. Buy growlers, buy crowlers, and fill up your fancy Yeti coolers with frosty beverages. Go out to dinner at a brewpub. Visit an outdoor beer garden. Clink glasses in a toast with friends at the local taproom.
You can go hardcore and visit one brewery per day, or simply show some love by buying a craft beer variety pack from your local grocer. If you opt for the latter, keep them cold with an excellent koozie.

National Bourbon Day
National Bourbon Day just so happens to pop up every time that fathers have a tough day parenting. Jokes aside, National Bourbon Day shares a day with Flag Day, how very American. With proofs residing between 80-136, the latter of which is Elijah Craig's Barrel Proof Bourbon, you should be glad that it's a day and not Bourbon week.
Wait, September is National Bourbon Heritage Month? Hmm ... best to stick to just the day.
Quick rules for making Bourbon
- Must be made in the United States
- Must be aged at least two years in a new American White Oak barrel
- Must use between 51%-79% Indian Corn
We imagine there are other rules to its creation. That's just a quick primer on the matter.
Also, is Jack Daniel's bourbon?

Michelada Day
You'd be forgiven if you thought Michelada was brewed by Michelob. A Michelada, or chelada as it is also called in Mexico, is a cocktail that consists of a beer that is poured into a salt-rimmed glass (usually pint) and has had some lime juice squeezed into it. From there, other ingredients can be added, most of them having varying levels of spiciness.

National Daiquiri Day
It is outstanding that this day even exists. The choice between Strawberry and Watermelon will be hard, so we'll make both.

International Beer Day
Because America isn't the only country brewing beer. Nor is America the only country drinking beer. This is a good time to check out foreign beers and beer styles. Since you've already celebrated Baltic Porter Day, Saison Day, German Beer Day, and Cinco De Mayo, you can safely leave the Farmhouse ales, Hefeweizens, and Mexican Beers on the shelf for International Beer Day. Pour yourself a Carlsberg, Ambar Especial, or Peroni. Or, get fictionally/non-fictionally Canadian and enjoy a Puppers Beer.

National Tailgating Day
National Tailgating Day is the first Saturday of September every year. College Football has started back up, cornhole sets have been loaded in trunks, coolers have been packed full of fresh burgers ... other than a pandemic, this works like clockwork.

National Sour Beer Day
Pucker up, cause National Sour Beer Day is unleashing tart flavors all over your taste buds on September 8th. One of our favorite sour beers is Vitamin Sea Brewing's Blueberry Pancake Ale. It's astoundingly delicious. It also tastes astonishingly like a big, pre-skiing pancake breakfast. In fact, let's just drink this beer and stash some pocket bacon before hitting the slopes this year.
